Energy Healing for Trauma: How One Boy Released Fear and Found Freedom

Four years ago, I worked with a little boy who was terrified of dogs. Not in a “dogs make me nervous” kind of way. He literally wouldn’t move from room to room in his own house without first asking, “Is there a dog?”

There hadn’t been a dog in their home for years and the fear still lived inside him, etched into his nervous system from something that had happened long before he had the words to explain it.

We hadn’t seen this family in a while, friends we’d known even before they had children. They had two sons now, and we’d gone over to their house for dinner.

We were outside talking, and I noticed the older son, maybe six at the time, kept pausing at the door to ask if there was a dog in the next room. Every single time. I gently asked his mom about it.


She said, “He’s been like this for a while. We don’t know what to do.”

That moment became a turning point.

I had just left my corporate career and was beginning my path as an energy healing practitioner. The Emotion Code and Body Code had sparked something deep in me, but I was still new. Still practicing. Still wondering if this work would really help people.

I said, “Would you be open to me practicing with him?”
She said yes.

And that’s where everything began.

When Trauma Happens Young, the Body Remembers

When he was around 10 months old, something happened with their family dog, something that frightened him so deeply, he never fully recovered. The dog was removed from the home soon after.

Like so many of the people I work with, the trauma didn’t leave when the event ended.

It got stored inside: stuck in the body, the subconscious, and the energy field.

We began with three gentle, intuitive energy healing sessions focused on clearing the emotional imprint. These shifts happened pretty quicky and were powerful.

His mom texted me from a mountain vacation. There had been a dog at a nearby cabin, and while he had been cautious...he wasn’t frozen, not panicked.....just aware.

We continued the work.

A few weeks later, they traveled through an airport where officers were walking dogs. Again, he stayed calm. Slightly nervous, but grounded.

A few years passed. Then she sent me a photo: He was holding a dog leash and smiling. He had just met that dog and the fear that was once so present, was not longer there.

And most recently? He visited family with a dog, and by the end of the trip, they were best friends. The emotional charge had healed.
His body and nervous system had remembered: I’m safe now.

Why Emotional Trauma Gets Stored in the Body

Here’s what most people don’t realize:

When something overwhelms us, especially early in life and our system doesn’t complete the full stress cycle, the energy of that trauma doesn’t just disappear.

It gets stored:
In our nervous system.
In our behavior.
In the way we trust (or don’t), feel safe (or don’t), and move through the world.

That little boy’s fear of dogs is just one example.
But emotional trauma can become trapped in any of us, from experiences we sometimes don’t even remember.

Common Sources of Stored Emotional Trauma

Not all trauma looks "traumatic" at first glance. Often, it’s subtle, consistent, or dismissed entirely. Over time, it wires our nervous system for protection instead of peace.

Here are some common sources I’ve seen and helped clients release:

  • Medical procedures or accidents

  • Birth trauma (your own or your child’s)

  • Fear-based parenting or discipline

  • Loss of a loved one

  • Emotional neglect (intentional or not)

  • Stressful school or peer environments

  • Bullying, exclusion, or teasing

  • Divorce or sudden family change

  • Toxic work environments or career burnout

  • Feeling “unsafe” in your body or identity

  • Always being told to be quiet, strong, or perfect

The body remembers what the mind learns to override and until we release that energy, it continues to run the show.

Signs You Might Be Holding Trapped Emotional Energy

Many of my clients come to me saying things like:
- “I’ve done so much therapy.”
- “I meditate. I journal. I’ve done the work.”
- “But something still feels stuck.”

  • Chronic tension or fatigue that rest doesn’t fix

  • Fear of being judged, rejected, or “too much”

  • Body symptoms with no clear diagnosis

  • Emotional heaviness you can’t shake
