The first time someone said that to me, I nodded politely… and had no clue what they meant.
I thought it just meant I was good at reading people or picking up on the mood in a room.
WOW....was I wrong.
What I didn’t realize was that I wasn’t just sensing emotions, I was absorbing them. Holding onto other people’s stress, grief, and overwhelm like it was my own.
And eventually, my body had something to say about it.
I remember sitting in my naturopath’s office, completely exhausted and desperate for relief. A strange pain in the bottom of my foot had been bothering me for months.
Nothing changed.
That’s when my naturopath gently suggested we try something different, Emotion Code® therapy.
I didn’t know much about energy healing back then, but I was willing to try. And what happened next changed everything.
As we worked through Emotion Code sessions, I discovered something shocking:
I had literally stuffed other people’s emotions into my foot.
Grief. Stress. Fear. None of it was mine, but my body had been holding it anyway.
And once I began releasing those trapped emotions:
That experience opened a door for me. I knew I needed to learn more.
After that experience, I started to realize I had been absorbing others' emotions my entire life. And while I wanted to stop, I had no idea how.
At first, I thought the solution was to shut it all down, turn off my feelings, build walls, go numb.
But that’s not the answer.
The truth is: Being an empath is a gift.
The real magic happens when you learn how to protect it.

Giving myself permission to stop playing small
I finally understood that I didn’t have to carry other people’s pain to be loving. I could hold compassion without holding their energy.
